Privacy Policy

Overview
App Monitor ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App Monitor application collects, how it is used, and your rights with respect to that information.
Short version: App Monitor reads on-device app usage data to provide its core features. This data is processed entirely on your device and is not transmitted to our servers or any third party.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 On-Device App Usage Data
App Monitor uses Android's UsageStatsManager API to read which apps you use and for how long. This includes:
- Package names of installed apps
- Duration of foreground usage per app, per day
- Timestamps of app sessions (used to calculate daily totals)
This data never leaves your device. It is stored in the app's private local database and is not uploaded, synced, or shared.
1.2 Limit and Schedule Configuration
The daily time limits and Do-Not-Disturb schedules you configure are stored locally on your device. They are not backed up to any cloud service unless you enable Android's native backup (see Section 5).
1.3 Information We Do NOT Collect
We do not collect:
- Names, email addresses, or any account information
- Device identifiers (IMEI, advertising ID, etc.)
- Location data
- Contacts or call logs
- The content of any app you use (only duration data)
- Crash reports or analytics (unless noted in future updates — we will update this policy)
2. How We Use Information
Because all data remains on-device, our use is limited to:
- Displaying your usage statistics within the app
- Enforcing the daily limits and DND windows you have configured
- Generating weekly/daily trend summaries shown in-app
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating the features you see.
3. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal data with any third party.
The app does not contain any third-party analytics SDKs, advertising networks, or social sharing SDKs at this time.
4. Data Retention and Deletion
Usage history is stored locally on your device. You can delete all app data at any time by:
- Going to Android Settings → Apps → App Monitor → Storage
- Tapping Clear Data
Uninstalling App Monitor also removes all locally stored data.
5. Android Backup
If you have Android's auto-backup enabled, your app settings (limits and schedules — not raw usage history) may be backed up to your Google account as part of the standard Android backup service. This backup is governed by Google's Privacy Policy. You can disable app backup in Android Settings.
6. Permissions
App Monitor requests the following Android permissions:
| Permission | Purpose |
|---|---|
| PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS | Read per-app usage durations via UsageStatsManager |
| FOREGROUND_SERVICE | Run a persistent monitor service to enforce limits in real time |
| RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED | Restart the monitoring service after a device reboot |
We do not request any permissions unrelated to the above functions.
7. Children's Privacy
App Monitor is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children. If you believe a child has used the app and you have concerns, please contact us.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
For significant changes, we will notify users via an in-app notice.
